Charity event in aid of Nrupatunga Kannada Medium School

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its fund-raising effort, Kannada Vikasa Shaikshanika Samajika Samskrutika Samsthe, which runs Nrupatunga Kannada School in city, has organised a Jugalbandi by violin maestro Dr. Mysore Manjunath and flautist Pt. Pravin Godkhindi at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar on Apr. 4 at 6 pm. For the cause, the duo are performing for free.

Announcing this at a press meet at Nrupatunga PU College premises on Wednesday, Samsthe Secretary Prof. H.G. Krishnappa said, “Mahatma Gandhi was one of the greatest proponents of ‘mother tongue’ as a compulsory medium of instruction, at least during primary education. Kannada Vikasa Shaikshanika Samajika Samskrutika Samsthe two years ago had set up Kannada medium PU College in Mysuru which is only one of its kind in the State. At that time, former CM Siddharamaiah had sanctioned Rs. 1 crore to the school. At present, over 400 students are pursuing their studies in Kannada medium in our institute, from LKG to PU level. In addition, we have established RamaGovinda Rangamandira, which is well-equipped with all needed facilities, to promote cultural activities. Unfortunately, parents who are financially strong enough are hesitating to admit their children to Kannada medium. Instead, only Kannada-loving families with poor financial background have come forward to admit their children here.”

“Hence, as part of its fundraising campaign, Nrupatunga Kannada School has organised a musical programme named ‘Nadasourabha’ by Pt. Pravin Godkhindi and Dr. Mysore Manjunath. I would appeal to everyone including music lovers as well as Kannada enthusiasts to buy this event passes and support the purpose. Cost of each pass is Rs. 1,000. I would also request donors to come forward and donate generously for this noble cause,” he said.
