Mysuru: Former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said that Mysuru, apart from being home to Classical Music, Dasa Sahitya, Folk Songs etc., also promotes Sugama Sangeetha.
He was speaking at ‘Gaanayaana,’ a musical concert presented by Gaana Nandana and Star Singers troupe at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road here recently.
Pointing out that the Mysuru District Unit of Karnataka Sugama Sangeetha Parishat is the most active among all district units, Dr. Rajanna said that the Mysuru Unit stands first in organising cultural programmes and Musical Nites across the State, including Bengaluru.
Senior Journalist Amshi Prasannakumar said that Karnataka Sugama Sangeetha Parishat Mysuru District President Nagaraj V. Bairy has organised more than 20 Sugama Sangeetha Musical Concerts in one year, providing a platform to over 300 singers to exhibit their talent.
Pointing out that these Musical Concerts are held with Musical Instruments as background support, instead of karoke, he said that Mysuru, which is known as the Cultural Capital of the State, has also been promoting Sugama Sangeetha.
N. Bettegowda, A.D. Srinivasan, Indrani Anantaram, Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, Abdul Khayyum, Poornima, Srilatha Manohar, Vani, Geethalakshmi Kini, Sujatha, Amrutesh and other singers enthralled the audience through their melodious presentation of Kannada, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil songs.
Nagaraj V. Bairy was conferred with ‘Kala Poshaka Ratna’ award and felicitated on the occasion, marking his birthday.
The Mysore Co-operative Bank President Yogesh, Directors Girish, Somanna, Harish Kumar, Niranjan and Yoganarasimhegowda were also felicitated on the occasion. Shalini Nagaraj V. Bairy, S. Venkatesh, N. Bettegowda and others were present on the occasion.
