April 10, 2017

Book ‘Tumbi Haridalu Gangi’ and newsletter ‘Taliru’ released

Mysuru – “It is unfortunate to see that folklore and its values are disappearing,” said Professor Dr. Mallesh Gowda of the Department of Kannada, AVK College, Hassan.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Kannada Janapada Jathre,’ Heritage Day celebrations and release of the book ‘Tumbi Haridalu Gangi’ and College’s monthly newsletter ‘Taliru’ at a programme organised jointly by Department of Kannada, Maharaja’s College, Kannada Sangha and Extra-curricular Activities Committee at Maharaja  Centenary Hall here on Saturday.

“Folklore was the reason behind the emergence of Science and Technology in the world. But now the same folklore is diminishing from the world which is disappointing. Our ancestors enjoyed their lives thinking they had everything but today’s generation despite having the worldly pleasures is always seen disappointed,” he added.

Stating that the Mysore Wadiyar Kings gave prominence to folk culture, he said that Maharaja’s College, which was started by the Wadiyars, must work towards popularising the folk culture.

‘Tumbi Haridalu Gangi’ author Dr. K. Sowbhagyavati, Maharaja College Assistant Professor Dr. K. Thimmaiah, Administrative Officer Dr. L. Limbyanayak, Kannada Department Head Dr. D. Vijayalakshmi and Extra-curricular Activities Committee Convenor Dr. S.T. Ramachandra  were present.
