Parishat celebrates 105th Foundation Day

Mysuru:  Maintaining that the Kannada Sahitya Parishat is itself like an University, with its President as the VC, author and Kannada Sahitya Academy Chairman Aravind Malagatti said that independence is key to preserving the integrity of an institution like the Parishat.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 105th Foundation Day celebration of Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat at Sahitya Bhavan in Vijayanagar First Stage here on Sunday.

Observing that the Sahitya Parishat should function like an Open University that has no barriers or limits, he said that even those Kannada organisations operating outside the State or the country, must be granted the status of a Parishat in order to help the language flourish.

Stressing on the need for leveraging technology in order to preserve Kannada heritage for posterity, Malagatti exhorted the Parishat members to play a more proactive role in the affairs of the country.

He further said that the literary body must undertake activities that will boost ethical voting. A modest contribution of Rs.10 from all Kannada teachers across the State would help the Parishat achieve Institutional independence, he added.

A Poets’ Meet was organised to commemorate the Foundation Day.

The event also witnessed a Geeta Gayana programme by R.C. Rajalakshmi, Sugandhamma and team and a talk by Maharani’s Arts College faculty Dr. B.V. Vasanth Kumar on ‘Kannada Sahitya Parishat.’

Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna presided.

Poet Jayappa Honnali, culture promoter K. Raghuram, Parishat office-bearers K.S. Nagaraj, Mugur Nanjundaswamy and others were present during the programme.
