Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Nanjangud from tomorrow

Mysuru/Mysore: The two-day 17th District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be held in Nanjangud on Feb. 29 and Mar. 1.

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said that the literary meet will be held at the Kalamandira, Srikanteshwara Temple premises in Nanjangud and senior folklore scholar T.S. Rajappa will be the Chairperson for the Sammelana.

ZP President Parimala Shyam will be flagging off the colourful procession carrying the Sammelana Chairperson. Daughter of Kuvempu, writer Tarini Chidananda will inaugurate the event. District In-charge Minister V. Somanna will be releasing the souvenir. Sammelana Chairperson of 16th District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana Indhudhar Honnapur and current Chairperson T.S. Rajappa will address the gathering. MP V. Sreenivasa Prasad will preside. MP Pratap Simha, MLA Dr. Yatindra Siddharamaiah and former Vice-Chancellor Dr. K. Chidananda Gowda will release books on this occasion.

Writer Gubbigudu Ramesh, MLA G.T. Devegowda and MLA Tanveer Sait will be inaugurating the cultural programmes, the book stalls and the art exhibition respectively. MLA B. Harshavardhan will deliver the welcome address. Members of Desi Ranga Samskritika Trust will be staging the play ‘Jalagara’ authored by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu on Feb. 29.

Poets Meet followed by special lectures will be held on Mar. 1 at 10 am. Poet H.N. Manjuraj will preside over the event. In the evening, at 5 pm, former MP R. Dhruvanarayan will preside over a programme in which littérateur Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK), MLC Maritibbegowda and writer Devanuru Mahadeva will participate. Kannada Book Authority Chairman Dr. Nandish Hanche will deliver the valedictory address at 6 pm followed by Presidential address by Sammelana Chairperson T.S. Rajappa. Padma Shri awardees, K.V. Sampath Kumar and Jayalakshmi, Editors of Sudharma Sanskrit daily, will be felicitated on the occasion.
