‘Karnataka Samskrutika Seva Ratna’ Award conferred

Awardee H. Channappa donates cash prize of Rs.1 lakh to Mysuru-Chamarajanagar District Artistes Welfare Association

Mysuru: Karnataka Rajya Kannadigara Asare Mantapa, Sri Jagajyoti Basaveshwara Akka Mahadevi Seva Pratishtana and Bharatiya Samskrutika Kendra together had organised a function at District Kannada Sahitya Parishat Bhavana in Vijayanagar 1st Stage here on Sunday evening to confer ‘Karnataka Samskrutika Seva Ratna’ Award on Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director H. Channappa.

Speaking on the occasion, writer Dr. Malali Vasanthakumar said that Basavanna’s ideals were on the lines of Vishwamanava.

He further said that the personality of a person would be improved by following the                         principles of Basavanna.

He contended that Vachanas of 12th century reformers Basavanna, Akka Mahadevi and Allamaprabhu are even today powerful enough to reform people close to the concept of Vishwamanava. He commended the efforts of the organisers in creating an awareness among people on the achievements of Ganayogi Sri Panchakshari Gawai to observe the legend’s 9th death anniversary.

‘Karnataka Samskrutika Seva Ratna’ Awardee Channappa was honoured along with his wife R. Mangala and presented with a cheque for Rs.1 lakh and a memento.

Channappa announced that the cash prize of Rs.1 lakh would be donated to Mysuru-Chamarajangar District Artistes Welfare Association.

Former MLA Balaraj, C.M. Narasimha Murthy, Ramesh Kumar, Neethu Ninad, Radha, Raviraj, Siddaraju, Rajalakshmi, Shantha and others recited vachanas.

Addressing the gathering, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna recalled that Sri Panchakshari Gawai was an inspiration and role model for specially-abled people.

Music Scholar Dr. C.A. Sridhar, Social activist H.M. Akkamahadevi and others were present. Rajalakshmi rendered invocation and Suryakava welcomed.
