Kautilya world’s first political realist: Dr. Vinay Vittal

August 6, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Retired Group Captain of Indian Air Force (IAF) Dr. Vinay Vittal has said: “Kautilya has been recognised as the world’s first political realist as described in the book by an apt title ‘The First Great Political Realist – Kautilya and His Arthashastra,’ authored by  American Political Theorist Roger Boesche.

Dr. Vinay Vittal addressed a gathering of students during a workshop on ‘Kautilya’s Arthashashra’ (Leadership and Management) with the help of power-point presentation at Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala, as part of Interact Club activity in association with Rotary Club Mysore, in the city last evening.

“The main focus of Kautilya’s economy is Rajamandala policy (circle of friendly and enemy States surrounding the king’s State). If your neighbour is your natural enemy, the neighbour’s neighbour is your friend. Believe in yourself and plan with a clarity on your next move,”  said Dr. Vittal.

“The children, who represent the country in the future, should be aware of all the tactics of Rajamandala. With this we will understand political ideology, policy, administration, economy, law, intelligence, military affairs, nuances of ambassador and foreign policies. The leadership quality and management is also descry bed in the text books of economics, Dr. Vittal explained.

Dr. Vittal, who has retired from IAF after 30 years of service, has extensively studied about ‘Kautilya’s Arthashastra’. It is worth mentioning that he was also the first pilot of Jaguar fighter jet of India.
