Kodagu Sainik School gets War Tank

August 16, 2018

Kushalnagar:  Major General (retd.) VPS Bhakuni  VSM, recently unveiled the War Tanker T55 at the Kodagu Sainik School in Kushalnagar thus realising the dreams of the cadets.

This War Tank was manufactured by Russia in 1940 and the Tankers were used by Russia in the Second World War. Later in 1960, the Indian Army adopted the Tanker T55, which played an important role during the Indo-Pak War in 1970. During the war, it was deployed at the border district of Fazilka in Punjab.

The Tank is equipped with main armament comprising a 100mm rifled gun with a hit range of over 14 kms in addition to mounted 7.62mm and 12.7mm machine guns used as aircraft weapons. For the first time the cadets were seeing an actual Battle Tank.

Speaking on the occasion, the Maj. General encouraged the cadets to  utilise the facilities available in the camps and take the responsibility of guiding their juniors too.

Ex-cadet Yamnoori said, “It is a dream of every cadet to see and drive a Tanker. But it feels happy when my school gets a War Tank T55 and I am happy for my juniors who will be encouraged by seeing the War Tanker.”
