Mysuru: Prof. A.P. Jayaprakash, who was serving as the Chairman of the Department of Studies in Physics, University of Mysore (UoM), assumed office as the new Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) at Muktagangothri campus here on Thursday evening. He replaces Prof. Sharanappa V. Halse, whose term had ended.
Prof. Jayaprakash will serve as the KSOU VC for a three-year period or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier, according to the appointment order issued by the office of the Governor-Chancellor of all State-run Universities.

Profile: Prof. A.P. Jnanaprakash had earlier served as the Registrar of UoM and member and Co-ordinator of NAAC peer team. A member of the Evaluation Board of UPSC, KPSC and APSC, he has over 155 articles to his credit, which have been published in reputed international journals. He has presented papers in countries such as USA, Brazil, Taiwan, China and Netherlands.
He was conferred ‘Sir C.V. Raman Award’ in 2024, an annual State-level honour given by Karnataka Government to recognise outstanding young scientists for exceptional contribution to Science and Technology.
