April 3, 2025

H.D. Kote: A KSRTC bus driver died after suffering a heart attack while driving the bus. The bus, which lost control, rammed into a woman, killing her on the spot. The incident took place near Dammanakatte Safari Centre on Mysuru-Manandavadi Main Road in the taluk yesterday.

While the deceased driver is Sunil Kumar (29), son of Mukundarao, a resident of Gannahalli village in K.R. Nagar taluk, the deceased woman has been identified as Lakshmamma, a resident of Dammanakatte village.

Details: The KSRTC bus, belonging to Mysuru Depot, was proceeding from Manandavadi in Kerala towards Mysuru during which driver Sunil Kumar suffered severe chest pain and lost control of the vehicle.

The bus, which was out of control, rammed into Lakshmamma, who was walking and then ploughed into an agricultural field, hit an electric pole and came to a standstill.

Lakshmamma, who had sustained serious injuries, died on the spot while Sunil Kumar was found with his head resting on the steering wheel. Meanwhile, passengers tried to wake him up but were shocked to find him dead. Luckily, there was no power supply at the time of the incident thus averting a major tragedy.

The bus passengers then informed the Police. The jurisdictional Antharasanthe Police, who reached the spot, conducted mahazar and shifted the bodies to H.D. Kote Government Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, H.D. Kote KSRTC Depot officials, who rushed to the spot, made alternate arrangements for the passengers to reach their destinations. It is learnt that Sunil was serving as the driver on contract basis since last month.
