KSRTC driver-cum-conductor risking passengers’ safety

August 9, 2022

Sir,

Last Monday (1st August) I happened to travel by KSRTC (Karnataka Sarige) non-stop bus from Mysuru to Bengaluru at around 5.40 am. I religiously took my ticket from the non-stop counter and boarded the designated bus.

The bus was yet to be filled and the driver was calling out for collecting the passengers in the bus. Many people boarded the bus without taking their tickets from the counter, as the driver ensured he will issue tickets in the bus. As it was getting late, people inside the bus were frustrated and told driver to depart.

Finally, the bus departed at 6.10 am and after Manipal Hospital junction the driver was calling out people to buy tickets and this was going on till Srirangapatna — all while he was driving with one hand and busy with ticket vending machine and money on the other.

He was constantly looking behind and yelling at people to buy tickets and collect change. He even told a fellow passenger to do headcount for tallying the tickets issued.

Now, that the Highway is being constructed and lot of diversions are present, if any untoward incident would happen who will be liable for the loss.

I request the KSRTC officials to strictly advice their drivers from performing such stunts while at the wheels. They can employ a conductor for non-stop bus if they need to offer tickets on the go inside bus. Please do not play with the lives of passengers and pedestrians.
