Mysore/Mysuru: The KSRTC, badly hit by the pandemic, has started experimenting with the alignment of seats in its fleet of buses to help passengers maintain distance from each other.

It has reduced seats in quite a few of its Rajahamsa fleet from 39 to 29 by rearranging them so that there are three seats instead of four in a row. On a trial basis, the KSRTC has started operating the modified Rajahamsa buses with 29 seats on Bengaluru-Mysuru route.

Pointing out that earlier Rajahamsa buses had 39 seats, officials said that this number has been reduced to 29 to create more space between passengers. Noting that earlier the buses had two seats on either side, they said that following the modification, there will be independent seats in a row. The new seat in the middle ensures a safe gap between passengers, thus helping in maintenance of physical distancing between passengers, the officials added.

It is pertinent to note here that the APSRTC has recently come up with a similar seating arrangement in its fleet of buses to ensure physical distancing among passengers.
