New Mysuru DC Dr. Bagadi Gautham to take charge this afternoon

Mysore/Mysuru: IAS Officer G. Lakshmikanth Reddy took charge as 48th Commissioner of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) this afternoon. He succeeded Shilpa Nag, who has been transferred as the Director, e-Governance, Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR).

Lakshmikanth Reddy is the Karnataka cadre IAS officer of 2009 batch and before coming to Mysuru, he was the Managing Director, Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited. He had also worked as the Assistant Commissioner of Hassan and Sakleshpur and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zilla Panchayats (ZPs) of Bidar and Vijayapura.

Speaking to media persons after taking charge from Shilpa Nag this noon, he said his priority was to check the spread of Coronavirus in city with the co-operation of all MLAs, MP, MLCs, Corporators and the MCC staff. “I will continue all the good work done by my predecessors, Shilpa Nag and Gurudatta Hegde,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bagadi Gautham, who has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC), will be taking charge of office this afternoon, according to sources.

Both the officers will take over the administration of Mysuru city and Mysuru district at a time when the COVID positivity rate stands at 27.74 percent. Apart from COVID, there is also the threat of Black Fungus cases that have claimed a couple of lives.

Incidentally, Dr. Gautham’s wife S. Aswathi is the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya. After a four-year courtship, the two IAS officers had tied the knot in Kerala on Feb. 14, 2019, on Valentine’s Day. At that time, Dr. Gautham was the Davanagere DC while Aswathi was Davanagere Zilla Panchayat CEO. Dr. Gautham is the son of Krishnarao-Parvathi couple from Vishakhapatnam (Vizag) in Andhra Pradesh.
