Legal awareness workshop for Pourakarmikas

Mysore/Mysuru: A day-long Legal Awareness and Outreach Workshop  for MCC Pourakarmikas was held under the joint aegis of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Mysore Bar Association, as part of ‘Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ at Town Hall here this morning.

Speaking after inaugurating the workshop, Principal District and Sessions Court Judge M.L. Raghunath, who is also DLSA President, said that Pourakarmikas play a very crucial role in maintaining our cities clean and tidy and it is the responsibility of the Government to take care of them. Stressing on the need for providing free education for children of Pourakarmikas, Judge Raghunath said that the Government must also provide free treatment for Pourakarmika families and also ensure that they get all statutory benefits.

Emphasising that Pourakarmikas must learn about their rights, he said that the society too must be caring for Pourakarmikas as it is they who risk their health and lives in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in our surroundings. 

Highlighting the role of Pourakarmikas as ground level workers in upkeep of towns and cities, he said that it is the responsibility of the authorities concerned  to extend all societal benefits that are due to them.

Senior Advocate G.S. Shivaswamy was the resource person.

Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Member-Secretary Devaraj Bhute, MCC Commissioner G. Lakshmikantha Reddy, Mayor Sunanda Palanetra, Mysuru Bar Association President Anand Kumar, Karnataka Bar Council member B.R. Chandramouli  and others were present.

More than 200 MCC Pourakarmikas took part in the workshop.
