Renowned theatre personality Rameshwari Verma to inaugurate

Mysore/Mysuru: Though cultural programmes and other Dasara events outside the Palace premises are not taking place this time on account of simple and symbolic Dasara due to COVID crisis, the city’s theatre repertory Rangayana will be organising an 8-day ‘Dasara Rangotsava’ (Dasara theatre fest) at Rangayana premises from Oct. 7 to 14.

Announcing this at a press meet at Rangayana premises here on Monday, Mysuru Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa said that veteran theatre artiste and Rajyotsava awardee Rameshwari Verma will inaugurate the theatre festival at 6 pm on Oct. 7 at B.V. Karanth Ranga Chavadi. Shivamogga Rangayana Director Sandesh Javali will be the chief guest. Mysuru Rangayana Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy will be present.

Pointing out that five plays of Mysuru and Shivamogga Rangayanas will be performed during the 8-day fest, he said that the fest has been organised despite financial constraints, with the Government yet to respond to the repertory’s plea for funds.

Referring to staging of acclaimed writer Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa’s popular play ‘Parva’, Cariappa said that ‘Rashtriya Ranga Sanchara’ of ‘Parva’ will commence from Oct. 23, with the performance of the play at Bengaluru’s Ravindra Kalakshetra on Oct. 23 and 24 at 10 am on both the days.

Noting that the Government has promised Rs. 1 crore for ‘Ranga Sanchara’, he said that Rangayana will set off the programme with a hope of getting Government grants.
