November 11, 2021

Hanagod/Malkundi: Two leopards that had created fear at Vaddambalu village in Hunsur taluk and at Kurihundi village in Nanjangud taluk have been trapped separately by the respective Forest Department staff.

In the first incident, a six-year-old leopard, which had created fear among the farmers and residents of Vaddambalu village in Hanagod hobli and surrounding places since about five months, has been finally trapped by the Forest Department on Tuesday.

Following complaints from villagers, that the leopard was raiding cowsheds and killing cattle and sheep, the Forest Department staff had placed a cage in the agricultural field of Siddaraju at Vaddambalu village.

On Tuesday morning, when Siddaraju went to his field, he saw the leopard trapped in the cage and informed Range Forest Officer (RFO) Nandakumar, who along with his staff arrived and shifted the leopard to Kallalla Range in Nagarahole where they released it.

The villagers demanded the Forest staff to take steps to trap two more leopards which were spotted frequently in the village surroundings.

In the second incident, a seven-year-old leopard has walked into the cage placed by the Forest Department in the field of K.P. Chandrashekar at Kurihundi village in Nanjangud taluk on Tuesday night. Nanjangud RFO Rakshit, DRFO Manjunath and staff, who rushed to the spot, transported the leopard and released it into Bandipur Forest.
