Levy entry fee at Lingambudhi Lake

September 2, 2026

Sir,

Apropos the news item titled ‘Pay to walk at Lingambudhi Lake’ in Star of Mysore dated Aug. 27, I am writing to express my complete support for the Forest Department’s proposal to levy an entry fee for visitors accessing the Lingambudhi Tree Park and Lake.

I am of the view that entry fees should be levied at all protected forest areas, trails and sensitive ecological zones around Mysuru, including Chamundi Hill.

Our reserve forests and natural hills are under intense strain from heavy crowds, uncontrolled plastic dumping, late-night gatherings and littering. Charging a dedicated entry fee is an essential step to regulate access and preserve these fragile ecosystems.

The proposed fee of just Rs. 10 is extremely modest and reasonable. When people routinely spend Rs. 15 to Rs. 20 or more on a single cup of tea or coffee, paying a nominal Rs. 10 to enjoy and help protect Mysuru’s natural beauty is a tiny contribution that virtually every visitor can easily afford.

Imposing entry fees ensures strict control and regulation. It curbs illegal entry and littering, while generating revenue for maintenance, park upkeep and plastic cleanup operations.

Preserving our natural environment requires resources and discipline.

Imposing an entry fee on all users is a standard, effective conservation measure used in protected areas worldwide.

I strongly urge the authorities to implement this proposal without delay for the long-term protection of Mysuru’s green heritage.
