Lewd message incident: Assault victim succumbs

Mysuru: An assault victim who was undergoing treatment at a city hospital since Dec. 8 breathed his last in the hospital on Saturday evening.

Hemanth Kumar (25), a resident of Hebbal 1st Stage, is the deceased.

Hemanth Kumar, who was accused of sending lewd messages to a woman, was lured out of his house on Dec. 8 by 3 youths namely Shyam, Tejas and Lokesh on some pretext. After taking Hemanth Kumar along with them, the trio severely assaulted Hemanth Kumar and dumped him at an isolated location in Vijayanagar before fleeing from the spot.

Hemanth Kumar, who sustained serious injuries in the assault, was admitted to a    hospital, where he succumbed yesterday evening.

Following the incident, the Hebbal Police had booked the trio on charges of assault and atrocity on Dec. 8. But as the assault victim died, the Police have booked the three accused on charges of murder, it is learnt.
