Bengaluru Urban DC conducting Magisterial Inquiry
Bengaluru: Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner (DC) G. Jagadeesha, who is conducting Magisterial Inquiry into the stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here that claimed 11 lives on June 4, has issued a notice summoning suspended City Police Commissioner B. Dayanand for inquiry.
The State Government has ordered for Magisterial Inquiry to probe into the reasons that led to the stampede at the Stadium, where the victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team had been organised, following its win in IPL-18 tournament on June 3.
Dayanand has been summoned for inquiry tomorrow (June 13), to collect information related to the scale of security arrangements made near the Stadium and related matters. Along with Dayanand, Vikash Kumar Vikash (who was suspended as Additional Police Commissioner-West) and H.T. Shekar (suspended as DCP-Central), have also been served notice to appear for inquiry, said a source.
CID probe
On the other hand, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that is also probing into the same incident, has intensified its pace of investigation. CID sleuths yesterday quizzed A. Shankar and E.S. Jairam, who recently quit as Secretary and Treasurer of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). CID Superintendent of Police Shubanvita-led team of personnel subjected the duo for inquiry that lasted several hours.
They were asked a series of questions related to decisions taken over RCB victory celebration, Police permission and security arrangements made prior to victory celebration by KSCA and going ahead with the event even after the stampede incident.
The two KSCA former office- bearers were sent later but with clear instructions to appear for inquiry, if summoned again. Besides, the duo have been asked to submit a few written documents, said a source.
A.K. Girish, who was suspended as Cubbon Park Station Police Inspector, in the same case, appeared for CID inquiry yesterday.
As part of the preliminary inquiry, KSCA officials and Police Officers are being quizzed, while in the later stage injured persons will be summoned for inquiry. The footages of CCTV cameras installed at the Stadium are also being assessed, said a source.
