On Wednesday morning (Sept. 27) at 6.30 am, I was walking near Maharaja’s College Sports Grounds. I was horrified to see the entire ground had turned into a garbage dump. Heaps of garbage spread around, mounds of plastic and all kinds of waste scattered all over the place.

Normally hundreds of children do cricket net practice and many people walk around besides other sports activities.

All the garbage was  the result of some exhibition held during the last 2-3 days.

Is it not the responsibility of the organisers to hand over a clean ground? Don’t they have any service level agreement before such an event? Who is responsible for such irresponsible behaviour?

The authorities who rent this ground should levy heavy fine for not handing back the place in good condition.

When we are talking about clean city and heritage city, it is unfortunate that there are such  people with callous attitude. They could have cleaned the place during the wee hours similar to what is being done in cities like Indore, the cleanest city of India. Even at 9.30 am, the condition of the ground was the same.

Last month when Gruha Lakshmi Scheme was launched in this ground with a massive set up and hundreds of cut-outs, at least the next day it was clean enough for  people to use  the grounds.

It is high time we don’t spoil the lung space and sports grounds of our city.
