Mysore/Mysuru: Asserting that the name of Mysuru is derived from Mahishasura, who was not limited to any religion or caste, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru of Mahisha Dasara Acharana Samiti said that Mahisha Dasara will be celebrated on Oct.5, no matter the District Administration gives the permission or not.
Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Prof. Guru said that Mahisha Dasara is being celebrated as a mark of respecting the history. Maintaining that Mahisha is true to history, he alleged that Manuwadis were preventing Mahisha Dasara celebration.
Asserting that Mahisha Dasara is the Dasara of aborigines, he contended that Mahisha Dasara is not a counter to annual Dasara celebration and hence the Government should grant permission.
Samiti President and former city Mayor Purushotham said that the celebrations will be marked with ‘Pushparchane’ (showering of flower petals) to the statue of Mahisha atop Chamundi Hill on Oct.5. Appealing the Government to accord permission for Mahisha Dasara, he questioned MP Pratap Simha why he was playing with the emotions of the people by obstructing the conduct of Mahisha Dasara.
Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike President K.S. Shivaramu, writer Prof. K.S. Bhagawan, Samiti’s Siddaswami and Dalit Welfare Trust’s Chikkandani were present at the press meet.
