Nanjangud: A man, who sustained grievous injuries after a brutal assault by a gang allegedly hired by his wife, has succumbed to his wounds at a private hospital in Mysuru.
The deceased has been identified as Rajendra, a resident of Hadinaru village in the taluk.
He was attacked with daggers and machetes and had been battling for life for nearly 20 days before he died on Sunday.
His wife Sangeetha — who allegedly masterminded the plot to eliminate him — and the three-member gang that carried out the attack are currently in Judicial Custody.
The incident took place on Oct. 26, when Rajendra was taking Sangeetha on his scooter near Hunduvinahalli Layout. Three assailants arrived in a car and attacked him with lethal weapons, attempting to stage the assault as a dacoity bid before fleeing the spot.
Nanjangud Town Police registered a case and formed a special team to trace the attackers. During the investigation, CCTV footage from the area raised suspicion about Sangeetha’s role.
She was arrested and during interrogation, she confessed to giving a supari to her brother to get Rajendra killed and make the attack appear like a dacoity attempt. Rajendra, who suffered multiple deep injuries, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru until he succumbed on Sunday.
