Perriapatna: A prominent dalit leader of Periyapatna, who had sustained injuries in a road mishap on Thursday, breathed his last at JSS Hospital in Mysuru late on Thursday night.

H.M Channaiah (56), who was also a former Periyapatna Taluk Panchayat member, is the deceased. Channaiah, a resident of Pourakarmika Colony in the Town, was walking by the side of Periyapatna-Anechowkur Road on Thursday morning, when he was reportedly knocked down by a motorcyclist near Ankanahalli Gate.

Channaiah, who sustained serious injuries in the mishap, was rushed to JSS Hospital in Mysuru, where he   succumbed late on Thursday night, it is learnt.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Periyapatna Police have registered a case in this regard.
