Man kills wife for money

May 8, 2022

Nanjangud; A man, who used to pester his wife for money, allegedly killed her by suffocating her to death for refusing to give money to him.

The incident took place at Rampura village in the taluk on May 6 night and the deceased has been identified as Deviramma (45) of Rampura village.

The accused is Venkatesh, who has been taken into custody by the Police.

Deviramma, daughter of Kalaiah of Rampura, had given his daughter in marriage to Venkatesh of Hampapura and the couple have two kids. It is learnt that Venkatesh, who used to fight frequently with his wife for money, had left his wife and children a few years back and was residing in Hampapura,  H.D. Kote taluk.

Venkatesh, who came back to Rampura village recently, began to reside with his wife and children, but again began to pester his wife for money, which used to lead to fights between him and his wife.

On May 6 night, Venkatesh again picked up a fight with his wife and Manu, son of Venkatesh and Deviramma, calmed his father and left for work. When he came back from work the next day morning, he found his mother dead. The face of Deviramma bore wounds and there was a mark around her neck, which looked like she was strangled with a saree, following which Manu lodged a complaint with Hullahalli Police, accusing his father of killing his mother Deviramma.

Dy.SP Govindaraju, Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar, Hullahalli Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kumar and staff visited the spot and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary in Mysuru for post-mortem. The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem was conducted.

After allegedly murdering his wife, Venkatesh had gone absconding and Crime Division Sub-Inspector Nanjunda Raje Urs and staff, who conducted an operation, traced him and took him into custody. Hullahalli Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
