Man loses toe as bull stamps feet atop Chamundi Hill

December 1, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: A 65-year-old devotee lost his toe after a bull stamped his feet atop Chamundi Hill yesterday.

The elderly devotee was standing in front of Chamundeshwari Temple when the bull ran in between the crowd, stamping the feet of the devotee in the process resulting in the toe getting severed from his foot.

Shocked on seeing blood oozing out from his foot, the elderly man collapsed on the spot and those who had come with him rushed him to a hospital in city, locals said.

Expressing shock over the incident, local residents said that it was not the first time that devotees coming to the temple were facing such problems. Earlier too, incidents of devotees getting injured by cattle have taken place and despite bring it to the notice of the Temple Administration Board several times, no action was taken. “Who knows, loss of lives may also take place in future,” they said.

Pointing out that whenever there is an increase in the number of cattle atop the hill as devotees, as part of their vow donate cows and calves, the cattle used to be caught and sent to Pinjrapole, local residents said that now, the number of cattle has increased and there is a fear of leopards attacking these cattle.

They said that steps should be taken to provide facility to take care of these cattle by collecting a nominal amount from the devotees who donate cows and calves and urged the Temple Administration Board to take immediate steps in this regard.
