Mathrumandali is a model for women’s education: Umashree

Mysuru: Actress and MLC Umashree said that Mathrumandali Educational Institution, which was established 90 years ago, has made an outstanding contribution for the education of women in Mysuru for decades.

She was speaking after inaugurating the 90th anniversary of Mathrumandali Educational Institution at Mathrumandali Circle in V.V. Mohalla here yesterday.

Pointing out that it is significant to note that a group of women founded Mathrumandali 90 years ago in pre-independence days for providing education to women, Umashree, who is also a former Minister, said that several past students of Mathrumandali have become as famous as the famed Mysuru Mallige, Mysuru Veelyadele’ and Mysuru Pak.’

“Several personalities have strived for the growth of Mathrumandali Institution over the past decades and they should be remembered at this point of time. The Institution has been striving for imparting education to girls and those who studied in the Institution in the past have excelled in many fields,” she noted.

MLA K. Harishgowda said that Mathrumandali Educational Institution, which was formed by women, has brought light to many families through its Jnanadasoha. It is laudable to note that a group of women established the Institution with the sole objective of educating and empowering women.

The struggles of women leaders such as Yashodhara Dasappa in the pre-independence days are a model for everyone, he said and added that he was always willing to extend co-operation as much as possible for further growth of the Institution.

Maintaining that the State Government is committed for the development of Maharani’s College for Women, Harishgowda said that the Government has granted a Rs. 120 crore for the construction of new blocks and hostels

The MLA also unveiled the portraits of the Institution Founders Soundaryamma Venkatesh, K.S. Nagarathnamma and Kameshwaramma Kuppaswamy .

Senior IPS Officer Dr. Dharanidevi Malagatti, who is also a writer, released the Souvenir titled Mathrumandali 90: Shatamaanada Hostilalli brought out by the Institution on the occasion.

Mathrumandali Institution Hon. President Vijayalakshmi Urs presided.

Vice-President Rameshwari Varma, Secretary Vani Prasad, Joint Secretary Hema Balachandran, Treasurer Vijayalakshmi Muralidhar and others were present.
