MDJA condemns manhandling of scribe

Mysuru:  Condemning the harassment on a journalist by Minister Tanveer Sait’s supporters who had also illegally confined the journalist in a house when he had gone for reporting, journalists under the banner of Mysuru District Journalists’ Association (MDJA), staged a protest by wearing black bands around the arms in front of Mahatma Gandhi bust opposite City Law Courts Complex here yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, Association President C.K. Mahendra said that this was not the first time that a journalist was manhandled and threatened by political parties and urged the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the District Election Officer, to take the issue seriously and take legal action against the culprits besides seeking protection for scribes.

MDJA Vice-President (City) M. Subramanya, General Secretary K.J. Lokesh Babu, Treasurer L.G. Dakshinamurthy, former Vice-President S.T. Ravikumar, littérateur Bannur K. Raju, senior journalist Kudli Gururaj, victim Shivendra Urs and others took part in the protest.
