‘Memory Walk’ marks World Alzheimer’s Month

Mysuru:  Marking World Alzheimer’s Month, a Memory Walk was organised by Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), Mysuru Chapter, in association with Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy in city recently.

Over 300 doctors and students of Pharmacy participated in the walk with a theme ‘Every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia.’ They also carried placards with messages on Alzheimer’s disease.

The memory walk was flagged off by DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple which passed through Gandhi Square, Devaraj Urs Road and JLB Road before culminating near the DC’s office.

Speaking on the occasion, ARDSI Mysuru Chapter President Dr. Hanumanthachar Joshi said that the Memory Walk was aimed to sensitise the public on AD (Alzheimer’s Disease) which is the most common cause of Dementia and accounts to 50 to 60% of all cases. He further said that a majority of Dementia patients were living in developing regions of the world. He contended that people with Dementia need extreme care which involves substantial psychological and financial strain.

Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions President B.S. Parthasarthy was the chief guest. K.R. Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. M. Srinivas, ARDSI Secretary General Dr. M.S. Sharath, Vice-President Ganesh and others were present.
