Announcing this at a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here this morning, Association President Brigadier (Retd.) Vinod K. Adappa said that Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep will be the chief guest.

The programme will be attended by Military Veterans and their dependants, NCC cadets, students of various schools and colleges and the general public.

A painting expo on martyrs and valiant war heroes who were awarded bravery medals by the President of India will be held at Suchitra Art Gallery (Suchitra Kalaashale) in Kalamandira, as part of the event, he said.

Recalling the Kargil war, Adappa said the Kargil war was fought in 1999 when Pakistan army along with Jihadi groups infiltrated into India and occupied Indian land. The Indian army, along with the Indian Air Force, showing exemplary courage and bravery, defeated Pakistan army and won the war in Kargil on July 26, 1999 after 74 days of continuous fight, when the last of the Pakistan army intruders beat a retreat. With the Pakistani forces conceding defeat and retreating, the entire country plunged into celebrations and the day of victory came to be known as Kargil Vijay Diwas, he said.

Being a Mysorean, recently retired, I have the proud privilege of being part of the Kargil operations. i was part of the technical team leading them to innovative methods to load the Mirage 2000 aircraft to deliver weapons at the Kargil heights occupied by the enemy.
Hats off to the armed forces. I still remember the days when we had to work endlessly throughout the nights to carry out weapon trials with modifications to realise our goal
