Minister appeals people to renew adoption of animals

May 12, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Those who had adopted animals and birds last year under the Zoo Animal Adoption Scheme will be urged to renew the adoption by another one year as Mysuru Zoo is facing financial crisis owing to second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, said District in-Charge Minister S.T. Somashekar.

Talking to reporters after visiting the Mysuru Zoo here yesterday, he said the entry of visitors has been restricted into the Zoo for 28 days to prevent any kind of problems for the animals. All those who had adopted animals to bail out the Zoo from the financial crisis last year will be contacted to see whether they are ready to extend the adoption by another year.

It may be recalled, donations had poured in from various quarters, individuals, philanthropists and several organisations last year following the intervention of Minister Somashekar who himself had donated a huge sum from his personal account and mobilised funds towards the maintenance of Mysuru Zoo.
