Deceased woman’s sister too brutally assaulted

Gonikoppal: A group of miscreants have attacked two sisters with lethal weapons killing one of them on the spot and have left another sister in serious condition at T. Shettigeri village in South Kodagu on Sunday evening.

While the deceased has been identified as Prema, the seriously injured is Veda. Veda and her husband Raju, residents of Bengaluru, had arrived from Bengaluru about four days ago and were staying in the house of Prema.

On Sunday, Prema and Veda had gone to the wedding of a friend near the house and while returning home in the evening, miscreants had attacked them. As Prema was struck with a lethal weapon on her neck, Prema had breathed her last on the spot due to excessive bleeding. Veda, who too was assaulted, had sustained serious injuries and was rendered unconscious on the spot.

On Monday morning, a woman, who was taking her cow for grazing saw the sisters lying in a pool of blood and informed the owner of the estate. Meanwhile, villagers, who gathered at the spot, saw that Veda was still alive, informed the jurisdictional Police and admitted Veda to a hospital in Madikeri, where she is said to be recovering.

Dy.SP Jayakumar has formed a special Police team to trace and arrest the miscreants. As the Police have suspected involvement of Veda’s husband Raju following his suspicious behaviour, Cops have interrogated Raju. A mobile phone has been recovered at the crime spot.
