Mysuru: MLA K. Harishgowda has called upon the authorities to reach out the health benefits of Yoga to the common man too.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 11th International Yoga Day at Government Ayurveda Medical College on Sayyaji Rao Road here yesterday.
“It is a matter of pride that Yoga, which was born in India, has gained global popularity. There is a need for educating people on a much larger scale on the health benefits that one would get by practicing Yoga. The authorities should inspire the people who are under stress to practise Yoga and get relief,” Harishgowda said adding that Yoga does not have any side-effects such as Allopathic medicines.
Yoga Guru B.P. Murthy, in his address, said that moral health is as important as mental, physical, spiritual and social health. The societal health will be good only if moral health is good, he noted.
College Principal Dr. K.S. Radhakrishna Ramarao, who presided, said that a 10-day programme will be chalked out as part of International Yoga Day, during which initiatives will be taken for reaching out Yoga to the common man and all sections of society. Senior Journalist Amshi Prasannakumar too spoke.
College faculty Dr. Sudhindra G. Navale, Dr. Praveen Kumar and others were present.
