Mysuru: Newly elected Chamaraja BJP MLA L. Nagendra has promised Rs.10 lakh grant out of his Legislator’s fund for the extension of Basava Bhavan in Vijayanagar here.

He was speaking after being felicitated at ‘Sharana Sangama’ and Endowment Lecture programme jointly organised by Hebbal-Vijayanagar Basava Samiti and Chamaraja Unit of Sharana Sahitya Parishat at Basava Bhavan in  Vijayanagar here yesterday.

Stating that he will also look into the chances of granting more than Rs.10 lakh, Nagendra assured of speaking to the MP in this regard.

Regretting that the BJP, which secured 104 seats in the Assembly under State BJP Chief B.S. Yeddyurappa’s (BSY) leadership, could not come to power, Nagendra recalled that it was former MLC Thontadarya, who was then the city BJP Chief, who promoted him in politics by giving the party ticket to contest in  the MCC polls.

Pointing out that it was Yeddyurappa when as the CM had made him MUDA Chairman, Nagendra said that it was BSY who gave him the party ticket to contest from Chamaraja.

Thanking the voters for electing him in the just concluded Assembly polls, he said that he was grateful to all those who supported him.

Writer Prof. Maleyur Guruswamy, who delivered the endowment lecture on the topic ‘Sathya Shuddha Kayaka’ explained what the topic  is all about.

Recalling his experience while taking part in a personality development camp at Ooty recently, Prof. Maleyur Guruswamy said that he noticed many participants, most of whom were elderly couple, had indulged only in taking care of their families while lacking in concentration on the topic being discussed.

Stressing on the need to understand the inner mind rather than believing in imaginary stories, he said that it was important to practice Basavanna’s principle of ‘Kayakave Kailasa.’

Mysuru Tarpaulins Proprietor Y. Veerabhadra was conferred ‘Kayaka Yogi’ Award on the occasion.

Hebbalu-Vijayanagar Basava Samiti President H.V. Basavaraj, Treasurer Lokesh, Sharana Sahitya Parishat Chamaraja Unit President M.S. Rudrappa and others were present.
