MLC urges for summer vacation for High School teachers

April 22, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Opposing the Education Department’s decision to declare summer vacation for High School teachers during SSLC exam and evaluation period, JD(S) MLC Marithibbegowda has urged the Government to declare vacation for High School teachers too during the period declared for Primary School teachers.

In a press release, Marithibbegowda termed the Department of Public Instruction’s Apr. 20  circular announcing different periods of summer holidays for Primary School teachers and High School teachers as unscientific. Pointing out that as per the circular, Primary School teachers will have summer vacation from May 1 to June14 and High School teachers from June 15 to July 14, he said that the SSLC exams are scheduled to take place from June 21 to July 5. It is incorrect to declare summer holidays for High school teachers during SSLC exams and evaluation period, especially in the wake of spike in COVID-19 positive cases, he noted.

Urging the Government to revise the summer holidays period for High School teachers, the MLC said that High School teachers and Primary School teachers should have the same summer vacation period. Claiming that though the Government has ordered closure of all educational institutions, there are reports that some schools and colleges are forcing the teaching faculty to come over to schools for doing non-teaching jobs, he said that such actions are not correct.

He further said that the teaching and non-teaching staff can be asked to work from home if necessary and the teachers be given summer holidays.
