Murderous attack on brothers at Hanchya: Six arrested within 48 hours of crime

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru South Rural Police have arrested six persons who had assaulted brothers at Hanchya village on the outskirts of city with lethal weapons in broad daylight on Saturday.

The Cops have nabbed the six accused within 48 hours of the crime, while one accused was caught by the villagers on Saturday and had handed him over to the Police. With this, a total of seven accused have been arrested.

Those arrested are Rammanahalli resident Rajesh alias Andani, Kiran alias Iski, Srinivas alias Seena, Puneet, Kariya alias Arjun and Naga. Another accused Nagendra was caught by the villagers on the day of the crime and was handed over to the Police.

The brothers, who had sustained serious injuries, are Kumar and Lokesh of Hanchya village.

It may be recalled that on Saturday at about 11.30 am, a group of seven to eight persons, who had come on two-wheelers, had parked the vehicles on the outskirts of Hanchya and entered village.

Meanwhile, Kumar, who came out of a hotel after having breakfast was attacked by the group with machetes and other lethal weapons and also assaulted Lokesh who came to the rescue of his brother Kumar. But, when the villagers of Hanchya retaliated, the group fled from the spot and the villagers, who gave a chase managed to catch hold of Nagendra, thrashed him before handing him over to the Police.

The video of the assault captured by villagers had gone viral on social media and Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Chetan, who took the incident seriously, had formed a team led by Mysuru South Police Inspector Shashikumar to nab the accused.

The Police, who began their investigation, collected the videos captured by the villagers and also went through the footages of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the crime spot. The Police, based on the videos and CCTV footages had launched a hunt to nab the accused.

The Police team, acting on a tip off that the accused were spotted at Kalasiddahundi in the taluk, conducted a raid and nabbed all the six accused yesterday.

SP R. Chetan, Additional SP Shivakumar and Mysuru Rural Division Dy.SP guided Mysuru South Inspector Shashikumar, Sub-Inspector Kempanna and staff Nagendra, Mahesh Kumar, Arunkumar, Sunil and Srinivas in the nabbing operation.
