Musical tribute on Jan.1

December 29, 2019

By Sridevi Iyengar

It has been two years since Mysore’s very own Nada Brahma Vid. Mysore M. Mahadevappa left his earthly existence to his heavenly abode. It is probably impossible to find words that can express the void the music loving fraternity, his children, family and  students feel due to his demise. The acclaimed violinist who was as famous for his musical skills as he was for promotion of classical music, is the father and guru of Violin Brothers, Mysore M. Nagaraj and Dr. Mysore M. Manjunath.

Vid. Mahadevappa’s music bespoke the pristine purity of Bidaram school of music which can be traced to the lineage of Saint Thyagaraja. His journey from a small village to being the most sought after violinist of his times is nothing short of phenomenal. Today his sons are reigning supreme in the world of Karnatak Classical Music. What better way is there to celebrate his life, legacy and music than to have a concert by the famous duo, this year’s Ganakala Bhushana recipients, on Jan. 1.

The programme titled Dhanyasi, a favourite raga of the Vidwan will be held at Navajyothi Auditorium at JSS Women’s College in Saraswathipuram on Jan.1 at 5.30 pm. Vid. Mysore Nagaraj and Dr. Manjunath will be accompanied by Vid. Shrimushnam Raja Rao on mridanga and Vid. Giridhar Udupa on ghata.

Sri Datta Vijayananda Theertha Swamiji of Avadhoota Datta Peetha will grace the occasion.
