Mysuru: Former Krishnaraja (KR) MLA M.K. Somashekar distributed compensation of Rs. 2 lakh each to the families of four individuals who drowned in Cauvery River near Muthathi in Mandya District on May 26. The relief amount was sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Somashekar, accompanied by local leaders, visited the mortuary to offer condolences to the bereaved families.
He also personally spoke with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, explained the tragic circumstances and urged immediate financial assistance. Following the approval, he handed over sanction letters to the family members of the victims.
It may be recalled that four residents of Ward No. 54 in Kanakagiri, coming under KR Constituency in Mysuru — Nagesh (40), Bharath (17), Guru (32), and Mahadev (16) — tragically drowned in the Cauvery River near Muthathi during a visit to Sri Muthuraya Swamy Temple for a special puja.
Those present at the occasion included Block Congress President G. Somashekar, Ward President Cable Mahadev, Ashraya Samithi member Gunashekar, Mohd. Farooq, Harish Gandhanahalli, Manjunath, Madhuraj and Naga Mahadev.
