Mysore Continues to Power up its Tech Sector While India Goes Digital

June 20, 2023

India is surging ahead to become a powerhouse of the tech and digital industry. Years of work to digitize urban areas of the country and get now-commonplace tech like smartphones into everyone’s hands is paying off in a huge way, with experts now often comparing the might of the Indian industry to that of China. The digital sector is expected to climb to $1 trillion over the next seven years, coaxing other nations like the US and UK to seek to further their ties in tech and innovation with the country.

While all of this is taking place across the country, with people adopting tech-driven solutions en masse, Mysore is powering itself up as a hub for such innovations and research. As the nation moves upward in the tech world, it looks like the foundations being laid in Mysore will play a major role.

Tech now ingrained in everyday lives

India may only have a smartphone penetration rate of around 47 percent, but that’s a count of over 650 million people. It’s a colossal count, and one that empowers easy and instant access to the online world. As a result, online-based sectors are booming in India. The clearest evidence of this comes in the form of the over-the-top media services boasting thousands of TV shows and movies on-demand and for subscription fees.

The clear leader in mid-2022 was Disney’s Hotstar, with over 40 million subscribers in India, but they recently declined to renew their rights to show the IPL, which will hurt that count significantly. Next up is Amazon Prime at 21 million, Sony Liv with 12 million, Zee 5 at almost eight million, and Netflix India with over five million. It’s not just on-demand video streaming that’s taken India by storm, with online gaming also becoming big business.

It’s the access granted by smartphones that has also allowed sectors like that of real slots online to thrive. Masks of Atlantis, Mighty Drums, and Warrior Conquest all boast large player bases, spurred by the 200 percent matched deposit welcome bonuses available. Such convenience has also led to eCommerce experiencing an enduring boom, with the market tipped to exceed $300 billion by the start of the next decade.

Mysore becoming a tech hub

As the perfect showcase of Mysore growing into a role as a tech hub for the country, earlier this year, JSS STU campus in Manasagangotri hosted a huge tech workshop. It welcomed heads from across Fortune 500 companies, including Tesla, Akamai, Tata Elxsi, Google, and TVS to put on talks and share expertise. It follows the opening of the so-called “Module X” campus from L&T Tech Services over in Karnataka late last year.

The new campus caters to some 1,300 engineers across its eight floors, designed to enhance digital production, development, design, software engineering, and other digital and virtual solutions. Further empowering the tech industry in Mysore is the new Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway that opened in March 2023. A tremendous vein for the industry, it cut travel time between the two tech-driven cities from three hours to 75 minutes.

Following its inauguration, it seems as though the Expressway started to bear fruit rather quickly. In mid-May of this year, it was announced that Mysore’s Vinyas Innovative Technologies would be teaming up with Printalytix of Bengaluru to specialize in building electric flying taxis. Undoubtedly, more announcements of tech business collaborations will continue to filter through, thanks to the new direct road.

Mysore is rapidly growing its tech industry and capacity to innovate and develop. As it grows, so too does the tech-savvy population of the country, which will help to feed more creatives into the field.
