Mysuru: Mysore Physicians Medical and Research Trust (MPMRT) conducted its Annual Medicine Update Programme from Apr. 4 to 6 at JSS Hospital auditorium in city.
More than 300 delegates from various Medical Colleges of Karnataka participated in the programme designed to provide updated contemporary knowledge and skills in internal Medicine.
Fifty eminent faculty from various Medical Colleges gave lectures on recent advances in medicine and conducted live case discussions for Post-Graduate students. There was a very interesting and well contested debate on “Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Practice.”
Three orations were delivered by eminent Physicians. Dr. C.D. Sreenivasa Murthy, Founder-Chairman of the Trust, delivered an oration on the topic “Ageing, longevity and death.” He explained the process of biological ageing and gave details of various studies related to blue zones and secrets of longevity. There were several update sessions and symposia.
Dr. Suresh V. Sagarad, Chairman of The Association of Physicians of India – Karnataka Chapter, who inaugurated the programme, appreciated the efforts of MPMRT in designing an excellent academic programme and wished that similar programmes should be conducted in various other regions of Karnataka for the benefit of PG students of other Colleges.
Lauding the efforts of the Trust for conducting these update programmes consistently for the past two decades, he said such activities have brought laurels to Karnataka State Chapter which got Best Chapter Award in India.

The Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) and felicitation programme was held at Mysore Sports Club on Apr.5 at 7.30 pm.
Dr. K.B. Ganapathy (KBG), Founder-Editor, Star of Mysore and Prof. K.S. Rangappa, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, were the chief guests.
Dr. Basavanagowdappa was felicitated by KBG on being elected as Chairman of MPMRT and for having completed two decades of service as its Secretary.
Prof. Rangappa honoured Dr. Basavanagowdappa on his elevation as Vice-Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER).
Dr. C.D. Sreenivasa Murthy was honoured by K.B. Ganapathy for having served the Trust for the last 20 years as Chairman.
Addressing the gathering, KBG lauded the great work done by MPMRT, which was inaugurated by him 20 years back.
He said that there are two important professions required for a healthy society. The first is the Teacher, who creates great human beings and responsible citizens. The next one is the Medical profession, which alleviates pain, suffering and takes care of human life.
KBG quoted Leo Tolstoy, “If you feel pain, you’re alive. If you feel other people’s pain, you’re a human being,” which highlights Tolstoy’s emphasis on the importance of empathy, compassion and selflessness.
He believed that true fulfilment and happiness come from serving others and understanding their struggles. He concluded saying, the doctor’s profession is noblest as they feel the pain of others, relieve the sufferings and provide good quality of life.
