AI cannot do everything, important to use technology with human values: Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas

Mysuru:  The 110th Founder’s Day of University of Mysore (UoM) was celebrated at a function organised at Crawford Hall in the University Administrative Block this morning.

Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi, who delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on ‘The University of Mysore in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Building a future with human wisdom,’ said that AI will not take away jobs in the county.

“Those who have the ability to use it with required knowledge, diligence and posing appropriate questions will play a prominent role in shaping the future of the country. Founder’s Day is not just a day for celebration. It is a day to remember our tradition, understand our responsibilities and to decide on our future goals,” he opined.

Advising Universities not to limit themselves to sharing knowledge and focus on evolving as centres of disseminating discretion, morality, analytical ability and also the ability to take correct decisions, Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has defined AI as ‘All Inclusive’ and every member of the society  must take part in the journey of development and progress. Only Inclusive Progress  can ensure the concept of Viksit Bharat, he added.

Elaborating the MANAV concept of PM Modi that M stands for Morality, A – Accessibility, N – National Sovereignty, A – Accountable Governance and V – Valid and Legitimate Use, Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas felt that AI should be used based on these five principles.

He concluded his lecture by saying that an education which caters to the development of all sections of the society is the need of the hour.

Prof. N.K. Lokanath, Vice-Chancellor, UoM, said that the University is imparting knowledge in the field of science, commerce, education, technology and many others for lakhs of students  for the past 110 years.

“UoM has produced many great scholars who have contributed to the development and well-being of the entire world and has played a significant role in the development of our nation. Today, we must gratefully remember all those who have contributed to the growth and fame of the University at both national and global level,” said Prof. Lokanath and wished that the UoM registers further growth and achievements in the coming days as well.
