Mysore Varsity VC regrets decline in research work

Mysuru:  The quality and quantity of research work has sharply declined in the last two years, regretted University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar.

He was speaking at the felicitation function organised by University of Mysore Research Scholars Association at Humanities Auditorium in Manasagangothri, here recently and said research papers should be published and only then it will gain traction. Hence, the research scholars must focus on quality research.

In 2020 the University will be going in for NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation to improve the rankings. They will strictly look at all the parameters. Hence, the research scholars should produce good papers  and the Professors should also guide them in this regard, he cautioned.

The UoM has dropped to Grade 2 ranking and it should scale up to Grade 1 ranking again and for this the co-operation of everyone is very essential, he said.

Hostels, laptop for students

Reacting to the memorandum presented by the research scholars, Prof. Hemantha Kumar said that a separate hostel will be set up for the research scholars and the foundation stone will be laid after the elections. The building will be completed in 15 months time.

Regarding the laptops for the students and research scholars, the efforts are on to provide them by sending the proposal to the government, he said.  Registrar Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi and Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. K.M. Mahadevan were also feted.
