Mystery shrouds beautician’s death

June 26, 2018

Mysuru: A beautician, who separated from her husband and was living with her friend, committed suicide in city yesterday. However, her mother has alleged that her daughter has been murdered and has pointed the accusing finger at her daughter’s friend, who harassed her for money.

The body of 25-year-old Ramya, who was working at a hotel in Nazarbad as a beautician, was found hanging at her house in Damodar Layout at Alanahalli last night. Ramya, originally from Channarayapatna in Hassan district, had married Anand, a resident of Shanthikoppalu in Srirangapatna two years ago and the couple had a son.

Differences cropped up between them and they lived separately. In her compliant, Ramya’s mother Lakshmamma alleged that a certain Sunil befriended her at the hotel where Ramya was working. They later became close and Sunil asked her to shift to Alanahalli from Srirangapatna and stay at the house of one Shekhar at Damodar Layout.

Lakshmamma of Channarayapatna said that her daughter was staying at Alanahalli and Sunil used to visit her frequently and also stay in the house. “Sunil used to pay the house rent and used to tell my daughter that she could return the money from the salary she received. Later, Sunil claimed that he was a financier and needed a lot of money for his transactions. He used to pester my daughter for money and take away all her salary,” Lakshmamma stated in her complaint.

Ramya’s mother has alleged that Sunil had taken a chit fund in her daughter’s name at Prerana Finance and had obtained a loan of Rs. 8 lakh. “He took away my daughter’s gold ornaments weighing 200 grams worth about Rs. 5,70,000. He used to harass her for money frequently and my daughter used to narrate her ordeal every day,” Lakshmamma said.

On Monday (June 25), my daughter telephoned me and said that Sunil had told her that he would come to her house in the evening and had asked her to keep the money ready,” Lakshmamma has stated in her complaint.

She alleged that Sunil had murdered Ramya and had asked someone to call her (Lakshmamma) at around 3.30 pm yesterday to inform about the death. Alanahalli Police have registered a case of murder and are investigating.
