September 12, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Maharaja Institute of Technology (MIT), Mysuru, had organised a two-day sports and cultural meet recently to mark the celebration of this year’s National Sports Day (Birth Anniversary of Hockey Wizard Dhyan Chand – Aug. 29).

The event was inaugurated by two of the renowned women cricketers of the State, Rakshitha Krishnappa, the State’s Captain and S. Shubha, by watering the sapling. The two cricketers were felicitated by Principal Dr. B.G. Naresh Kumar, Secretary Dr. T. Vasudev and President Dr. S. Murali during the inaugural programme.

The Principal, in his address, remembered the greatness of Major Dhyan Chand, whose birth anniversary is aptly celebrated as National Sports Day.

Rakshitha, in her short speech, emphasised on the importance of participating in outdoor sports. She also called for use of Kannada in Karnataka and attracted a huge round of applause from the audience.

Shubha said that the sports helps in creating a lot of positivity and allows to lead life with dignity.

In his presidential address, Dr. Murali raised concerns over the addiction of youths to mobile phones and called for a change of mindset.

Their speech was followed by an oath-taking ceremony to stay sportive in any situation and uphold the sportsman spirit throughout the two-day event.

H. Dhanya Sundar, PED and A.M. Aniruddha, Administrative Officer, were present.
