Mysuru Jail Superintendent calls for stricter implementation of Violence Against Women Act

April 14, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Stressing on the need for implementing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in a more stricter manner in order to bring down crimes against women, Mysuru Central Jail Superintendent K.C. Divyashri observed that a person should be judged by  personality rather than gender.

She was speaking at the International Women’s Day organised by Mysore Bar Association at the District Law Courts premises here recently.

Noting that it is common to see action taken after violent incidents happen, Divyashri said that pre-emptive actions  will be more effective in tackling atrocities against women.

Observing that the celebration of International Women’s Day will inspire women to achieve something big in their life, she said that problems should be converted into opportunities. She further said that appropriate use of opportunities  and openings will help in building our confidence.

Stressing on the need for  practicing gender equality, Divyashri said that just like the saying that a woman is there behind every successful man, the co-operation of man too is an important factor in the success of a woman. The role of man and woman is vital for a healthy  and progressive society, she added.

Earlier, Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Ramachandra D. Huddar, who spoke after inaugurating the event, said that the happiness in an extended family cannot be experienced anywhere.

The tendency of parents to get their daughter married off to a family that has no In-laws (Mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law etc.) is not a good development, he added.

Judge Huddar also called upon the parents to keep their children away from social media networks, TVs and other distracting networks. He further said that it is important for every person to respect elders in their homes and other places.
