Mysuru Police launch Public Address System to check traffic violations

Traffic lessons to motorists through wireless mike at 52 Circles & Signals

Mysuru: In a bid to regulate vehicular traffic, to ease congestion, as well as to sensitise motorists on various traffic rules at major junctions and Circles, the City Police have launched a Public Address System traffic awareness drive across the city.

The Traffic Police are not only going hi-tech but they are serious in using the gadgets to bring about desired results in implementing traffic rules with City Police coming out with the tag line ‘We care for you.’

Speaking to Star of Mysore here yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) G.N. Mohan said that the Traffic Police have initiated this drive under the directions of City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna at all 52 major Circles, junctions and traffic signals identified by the Police.

Earlier, this idea was implemented at Hardinge Circle and near the Zoo on a trial basis and based on its success, this drive is now going on in front of the Palace, Five Lights Circle, Suburban Bus Stand, V.V Puram, Government Ayurveda College Circle and near the Race Course.

A Public Address System (PA system) is an electronic system comprising microphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers and related equipment that is installed in all these Circles and Traffic Police Constables will be giving directions to make mike announcement on all traffic violations.

Many vehicle riders jump the traffic signals, many owners park their vehicles haphazardly and that often leads to traffic chaos and turn a potential threat to moving vehicles and people. Hence, to sensitise the people to following traffic rules and road regulations, the public address system is introduced, he said.

Apart from educating violators and public, the new system would also play a major role in helping to de-congest traffic. The Traffic Police who arrive on major roads and prominent Circles daily at 8 am alert the motorists about traffic rules by making mike announcements in all these prominent Circles.

They also caution the riders who ride without helmets, speaking on the mobile while driving, carrying more than three people on two-wheelers, pedestrians trying to cross at Zebra Crossings even if there is no signal, motorists jumping red signals and other such traffic violations.

Apart from imparting lessons through mike to those who violate traffic rules, the Traffic Police also capture the vehicle registration numbers of those who break rules on their cameras. They immediately swing into actions as soon as they spot a person trying to park by the roadside or in no parking zones and ask them to remove the vehicles.

The Police continuously badgering the pedestrians at the Zebra Crossings on all the four sides of the city’s prominent landmark K.R. Circle, to follow traffic rules, has been going on for a long time. They are also cautioning the students while crossing the Circles near their schools. Such problems will be solved by the implementation of PA system, he said.

“In the coming days along with Traffic Police, the services of Home Guards will also be utilised. We are in the process of installing PA system at all Circles and it would be completed soon,” Mohan added.
