Cops on a lookout for two more accused

Mysuru: Channapatna Police have arrested a native of Chamarajanagar district, on charges of threatening and blackmailing Channapatna Tahsildar B.N. Girish (former Mysuru Tahsildar) and have launched a search to nab two others who are absconding.

The arrested is Anush, a resident of Mysuru, hailing  from Yanagumba village in Chamarajanagar.

Sharing his ordeal to Star of Mysore, Tahsildar Girish said that when he was serving as Mysuru Tahsildar, Anush had introduced himself as a social worker and builder and used to call him over phone now and then.

Tahsildar Girish further said that on June 28, Anush, who called him over phone, told him that he was going to Bengaluru and would drop in, to which he obliged.

The Tahsildar further said that Anush came to his Government accommodation along with two of his friends in the night and told him that one of his relatives was admitted at a hospital in Bengaluru. He asked to lend some money for the treatment, to which the Tahsildar obliged, but only Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000, citing his helplessness to arrange a huge amount at the moment. Anush then asked him (Tahsildar) to at least arrange food to which he consented.

Spiked juice

The Tahsildar further said that Anush gave him a juice which he had brought along with him.  Anush and his two friends also gave him the company by drinking juice with him. A few minutes later, Tahsildar fell asleep and woke up at about 5 am, only to feel someone hitting him, while  Anush and his two friends were standing before him.

The trio then showed a video of him in a naked condition and demanded Rs. 10 lakh, failing which they threatened to upload the video on social media platforms. As Girish replied in negative, the trio demanded him to give at least Rs. 50,000, to which he told them to give time till morning to arrange the amount, following which the trio left his house, Tahsildar Girish said. The trio called him over the phone at about 9 am to enquire if the money was ready, he added.

Fearing that the trio may continue to blackmail him, he lodged a complaint at Channapatna Police Station on July 1.

Meanwhile, Channapatna Police said that prime accused Anush has been arrested.  He has an attempt to murder case registered against him at Vijayanagar Police Station in Mysuru. While a search is on for two accomplices of Anush, who are absconding.
