Government offers 50% discount on pending fines if paid between June 21 and July 10, 2026

Mysuru – In the backdrop of the 50 percent rebate scheme announced for the period between June 21 and July 10, it has come to light now that under the Mysuru City Police limits, 1,04,18,480 cases are pending, with a total fine amount of Rs. 458,04,01,700.

Under the District Police limits, 36,73,737 cases are pending, with fines amounting to Rs. 184,05,74,500. In total, 1,40,92,217 cases are pending across the city and district limits, with a whopping Rs. 642,09,76,200 (approximately Rs. 642 crore) due in fines.

In Transport Department records, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), East, has 792 pending cases with fines worth Rs. 24.12 lakh, while the Hunsur RTO Division has 864 cases with Rs. 30.99 lakh pending. In total, 1,656 cases amounting to Rs. 55.11 lakh remain to be collected.

Judge directive

Principal District and Sessions Court Judge K.N. Usharani has directed officials from various departments, including the Police, to take necessary steps to collect pending traffic fines under a 50 percent rebate (discount) scheme announced for the period between June 21 and July 10.

Judge K.N. Usharani noted that traffic fine arrears amounting to Rs. 458 crore are pending within the City Police Commissionerate limits, while Rs. 184 crore is pending under the District Police (Superintendent of Police) limits, taking the total pending amount to Rs. 642 crore.

Addressing a meeting of officials held at the Conference Hall of the new Law Court Complex in Jayanagar yesterday, Judge Usharani said, the rebate facility applies to traffic violation cases booked before May 2026, as well as Transport Department cases registered between 1991 and 2022, as per a State Government notification.

She stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the Police and Transport Department to ensure effective implementation of the scheme. She also informed that during the previous Lok Adalat, 77,41,050 cases were settled, generating Rs. 201 crore in revenue through recovery of pending fines.

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Member-Secretary & Senior Civil Judge Nagaraj Siddappa Ankasadoddi, Additional SP C. Mallick, Mysore Bar Association President S. Lokesh, Traffic ACP M. Shivashankar and others were present.
