National Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Research’

Mysore/Mysuru: “India is lagging behind in research though we have repository of scientific detail,” said Prof.Y.S. Siddegowda, Vice-Chancellor, Tumkur University, during the inauguration of the National Conference on ‘Emerging trends in Research, Writing and Publishing skills,’ organised by St. Philomena’s College Research Centre, Mysuru, in association with Department of  Social Work and Elsevier Research Intelligent, Hyderabad.

Prof. Siddegowda elaborated on the parameters for University ranking at national and global levels. He added that, India is the third largest publisher of scientific articles and thanks to the ICT, there is a boom in social science research. Further, he stressed that, research should be taken seriously and should lead to the expansion of societal knowledge. It shouldn’t be done just to acquire a degree or a designation. Infact, every research should lead the society towards a better way of life and understanding of the same.

Delivering the Presidential remarks, Monsignor Rev. Fr. Leslie Moras, Episcopal Vicar, remarked that research should inculcate a basic curiosity among students, only then it will create a passion to go deeper into the subject. 

Dr. Sukanya Maloli, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, welcomed the gathering. Rev. Dr. Fr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector/ Manager, Rev. Fr. Roxan Thomas Baros, Campus Administrator,  Prof. Othbert Pinto, Director, PG Studies & Research Centre, Prof. Sanjay Nair, Vice-Principal, Prof. Alphonsus D’Souza, Controller of Examination, Dr. Prakash Coutinho, IQAC Coordinator and participants from various Colleges and faculty were present.
