National conference on engineering innovations held at city college

Mysuru: The Departments of Information Science and Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering of GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, had jointly organised the Second National Conference on “Engineering Innovations and Solutions (NCEIS-2018), “Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (NCRACES-2018)” and “Intelligent Energy Systems” (NCIES-2018) recently.

Chief guest Kalpana Arvind, Group Director, Photonics System Group, LEOS, Bengaluru, delivered the keynote address on “Technological Advancement in the field of Attitude Sensing for Satellite.”

She traced the growth of ISRO activities right from Aryabhata and other satellites launched till date. Mission Impossible was made possible because of the dedication of ISRO team even with a low budget, Kalpana Arvind said.

She briefed about the technological aspects of satellites by giving numerous examples. She was of the opinion that advancement in technology should aim at the needs of common man.

She emphasised about the sensors developed by ISRO and specified how sensors play an important role in controlling the satellites highlighting the working principle of STAR sensor.

Benild Joseph, Information Security Advisor, Government of India spoke on “Cyber Security”.

He highlighted about the security concerns for common users of internet and narrated how hacking is done and what precautions can be taken.

He shared some interesting examples of dangerous and most common cyber threats happening in India.

The aims and objectives of the National Conference was to bring together students and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results about various aspects of engineering innovations and solutions, intelligent energy systems, robotics, automation, control and embedded systems.

Participants from various engineering colleges in and around Karnataka presented their technical papers in the areas of interest such as robotics and automation, image processing and applications, ultrasonic signal processing and applications, robotic remote sensing applications and other related topics.
