Navodaya to stage Kannada play ‘Ayodhya Kanda’ from tomorrow

May 4, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Navodaya, a city-based theatre troupe, will be staging the play ‘Ayodhya Kanda’ in Kannada at Kirurangamandira (Mini Theatre) in Kalamandira premises from May 5 to 8 at 7 pm.

Disclosing this at a press meet at Kirurangamandira yesterday, senior theatre artiste and director Prasanna said: “The whole world is stuck in a huge problem of differences between the culture and religion. The indigenous cultures from all over the world are disintegrating due to excessive modernisation. People revere symbols, spend money and build structures. They build massive temples, mosques and churches. But they forget the essential dynamic. God, nature, civility, all are pushed into the sanctum sanctorum and forgotten. Keeping all these facts in mind, Navodaya is staging the play ‘Ayodhya Kanda’.”

“Rama is a great man. He is an example for unity and love. Unity is the most important aspect for everything. It brings peace. The play aims to create awareness about the love and unity of one another. Rama is great but ‘Ramayana’ is greater. It carries the theme of civility,” he said.

Stating that ‘Ayodhya Kanda’ is their first attempt, Prasanna said: “Ramayana has three Kandas — Ayodhya Kanda, Aranya Kanda and Sundara Kanda — which includes the whole story of Ramayana. Our team will soon stage plays of  all the Kandas.”

“By staging this play, we want to eliminate all the differences between religions. Many people are misusing religious concepts for their own benefits in daily life. Our play wants to set an example by communicating the actual facts,” he added.
